Riding on the metro
Compiling a list of my fave vid parts for 2014 thus far, and this one is sitting at the top for the moment. A Biggie/Tupac/Kane Live jam, stripped down to the beat and the rhymes, proves to be a fitting soundtrack for Molinar's sick lines. This part makes me want to skate for sure. Night skate to be more specific. I'm not big on crooked grinds, but his have gotta be some of the best in the biz. Gap to crooks is A+. There's a two trick line that starts with a frontside flip out of a 7-11 parking lot, over a hydrant and ends with a switch backside flip on flat soon after. It's just two tricks but the style and the street lights make it memorable, something you want to return to as well. Backside five-o frontside 180 out on a ledge has always been a favorite of mine. Here he does one off the end of one ledge, dropping down to another and opting for a simple fakie ollie down to the sidewalk. I love it. It's accessible.
I can enjoy watching stunt skating from time to time, but it's parts like these that remind us that skating doesn't always have to be bonkers. I'll be checking out what else WKND skateboards puts out there, along with companies like Magenta, and Isle. Companies that are putting out the kind of skating that actually makes me want to go out and hit the streets. Good show, Metro.

New Smitty to Feebs flow rider
Sorry for the delay in a new post but I was busy helping with the making of this little guy. He was pushed into the world via vagina on August 2nd 2013.
It's clear from this photo that he is already practicing some simulated skate maneuvers. This is obviously a posed 360 flip, mid flip. His left leg is showing the "scoop" motion of the tail while the right leg is in the "flick" position. What is not so obvious is whether this means he is goofy footed or is in actuality engaged in a switch 360 flip, in which case he is regular footed like his dad. I will love him no matter which stance he chooses.
He is definitely showing some sweet style in hand gesture and general relaxedness. It's almost like he's asleep at the wheels.
Love you little buddha, aka: Big Kahuna.

sidewalk surfing with the alien
I got this little buddy for Christmas from Dave Ferro. It's become kind of an obsession for me to ride this thing as often as I possibly can. I find myself cruising it from my house to my car when I'm going to work, and the car may just be across the street. Hey! These wheels roll across trolley tracks, baby!
Ok, so what's up with this thing. Lance Mountain gives the details on structure and functionality in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKsDXSJH3k4
He gets a little excited about a crow being stoked on the kicked tail, but that's just Lance being Lance, am I right? By the way, the kicked tail is pretty nice. The reason I'm drawn to this thing is that it really cooks! The trucks turn real nice and the soft wheels ensure that no one will hear you coming. There is something addictive about this quicksilver piece of plastic. Lately I've taken to Cat In the Hat style maneuvers with my trailing leg raised, or maybe both feet pointed forwards, one behind the other.
I took out my regular 8 x 32 wood deck this afternoon and I was like "WHOA!" Everything I'm like "Whoa!" I was mostly just hucking ollies. But it felt a little weird with the larger plank on the line.
There is a double sided curb down by the furthest reaches of USP's parking lot and I think I'm gonna wax it up. I really only want to relearn boardslide to feeble grinds. I'll be so happy.
I'd like to thank Dave for the sweet Christmas present. It will go down as one of the all time best, up there with the Tascam Porta 424 my wife got me a few years ago and the year my parents gave me an Alien Workshop Christmas with a John Drake slick board, wheels, a t-shirt and a copy of Memory Screen. I still remember watching Dyrdek's part while putting my new board together. That black and white demo footage where he does a 360 flip to rock to fakie on a little plywood quarter pipe.
DISCLAIMER: That is not Dave Ferro in the above photo.

power slide cross the hardwood floor
These socks are just fine, come on. They're great. My mom bought me a pair of Stance socks for Christmas last year and they are my favorite socks. I wear them all the time when long sleeved socks are called for. In the summer I wear ankle socks, but that is another post for another time.

November Mornings
The Lakai Marc's are still in the box. I still have my second pair of KA-ONEs and a pair of VOX flim flammers in olive drab to tear through. Getting there. I figured I would share a review of two upper east coast breweries' winter seasonal offerings.
Blue Point Brewing's White IPA and Harpoon's Winter Warmer. The can of spiced up IPA looked like a Piels at first. Upon closer inspection it shown a logo surrounded by intricate mosaic tile. With the word "Fresh" graffitied above the left corner of "IPA" I wasn't sure if this artwork was going for "class act" or "historic urban decay".
Harpoon's label looked as it does every year.... classic green and red boughs of hollis motif.
While the White IPA was going for wheat beer meets hop heavy ale, the Harpoon goes for a stickier, maltier sort of approach. When the brisk air is snapping and stinging, we can seek sound shelter with these delicious brews.
